Our Story
Welcome to Mt Tumbarumba, Australia’s first community-owned and operated mountain bike park. Nestled on the edge of the Snowy Mountains, our small town has created something truly special—and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Our story begins in the small town of Tumbarumba, known for its breathtaking landscapes, granite boulders, eucalypt forests, and stunning views across the Riverina and Kosciuszko National Park. We had always been a place of natural beauty, but after the devastation of the Black Summer Bushfires, our town faced a harsh reality: we needed to rebuild, and we needed to diversify if we were going to survive.
A group of passionate local mountain bikers saw the potential in the rugged terrain surrounding our town. They dreamed of creating a world-class mountain bike park that could bring new life to Tumbarumba. But turning that dream into reality was no easy task.
When our initial plan to build trails in the state forest failed, it seemed like the dream might be over. Instead of giving up, we focused on Mt Tumbarumba, just 2.5 km from the main street.
After securing $3.4 million AUD from the Black Summer Bushfire Grant, our final hurdle was purchasing the land. That’s when the heart of the community truly shone in an extraordinary way.
Local farmers donated pregnant cows, which were auctioned with donations from businesses and residents in a unique rural fundraiser. We raised over $141,000 AUD in one evening, and with grants from the Tumbarumba Community Bank and Hyne Timber Mill, we made the Mt Tumbarumba purchase possible.
Today, Mt Tumbarumba Bike Park stands as a testament to the grit, generosity, and determination of our town. It’s more than just an incredible place to ride—it’s a story of overcoming adversity through community. Every ride and dollar spent helps keep the trails world-class, supports the park, and strengthens our town.
